Clare Maguire: in a league of her own

I can't quite believe I never wrote anything about the fantastic Clare Maguire. My first encounter with her was in 2010, when I got to hear Strangest Thing, a song that would haunt me for months. Its remix by Bloodshy & Avant made it even more appealing and I'm now wondering why it didn't end up in my top ten of 2010.

Then another super fine tune appeared, called Ain't Nobody. Epic, emotional and powerful are the three adjectives that best describe it, as well as the artist's style.

Now Clare is getting ready to release her debut album Light After Dark, a few weeks after she was named one to watch in the BBC Sound of 2011 list.

The album's title perfectly reflects what first single The Last Dance embodies. Something equally gloomy and positive, brighter thoughts after dark times. This single is an absolute must-have for the year and hopefully the first step of a long way.

Here's a beautiful rendition of said The Last Dance, with strings and all. The perfect setting for Clare's great voice. Watch the beautiful video, and others, here at Clare's website.

More on Clare very soon, with the unveiling of the album on Feb. 28th.
